Brown University Fitness Center

Brown University Swim CenterRecently, I visited Brown University and was given the opportunity to tour the new Nelson Fitness Center which will house the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center and the David J. Zucconi Varsity Strength and Conditioning Center, all of which is now just completing construction in anticipation of opening this March 2012.  Included in the new sports complex, magnificently designed by the world-famous architect Robert A.M. Stern, is a 35,000 square foot health facility for all Brown University students. And, a former parking lot has been transformed into the new Ittleson Quadrangle where students and athletes can now congregate and enjoy the beautiful sports complexes.
I was thrilled to be able to tour the entire facility and to actually walk into the pool before it is completed and filled with water……a view that I will not be able to see again once the building is completed.
As a former spring board diver on the swim team, it is so gratifying to be a part of this new complex.  And, as a former rugby player, it is so heartening to know that our former founder of Brown Rugby, Dave Zucconi, will have the varsity strength training and conditioning complex name in his memory.  This complex will indeed be a great addition to Brown University.
