World Trade Center Tour

One World Trade Center

On August 14, 2012, I had the true privilege and honor to tour the construction site of the World Trade Center (WTC) including a building tour of 1 WTC, a 3 million square foot building which will rise to 1776 feet high (the top of the spire), and become the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.  The building will shortly “top out” at 104 floors and completion is scheduled to occur at the end of 2014, when tenant interiors will begin for Conde Naste, who will occupy 1.2 million square feet; the China Center, who will occupy 200,000 square feet, and the Federal Government, who will occupy approximately 275,000 square feet.

1 WTC is simply spectacular and awesome in its size and majesty!  We rode the hoist up to the 90th floor (the highest that one can safely tour at present). From there, one has a 360 degree view of the entire New York area. We also toured the 64th floor, which will serve as the double high sky lobby floor.

We also toured the underground concourse of the complex which also is incredible. We walked through the soon to be finished East-West Connection that will connect the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden (now undergoing a $250 million renovation) to the new Santiago Calatrava PATH Station, and to the Dey Street corridor (opening this Fall 2012); and ultimately to the new Fulton Street Transit Center (scheduled for completion in 2013).

From there, we toured the 911 Memorial Museum which is scheduled to open next year.  Already fully enclosed, the museum is home to the two Trident steel beams from the original WTC Towers.  The Museum and completed Memorial are very emotion evoking and will be a magnificent tribute to the memory of all those who lost their lives on 911 and from the original WTC bombing.

Finally, we toured the new Transportation and Loading Center that is schedule to open in 2014 and on which, 5 WTC will be built.
