Israel Bonds National Board of Directors Meeting Dinner

By:Kent Swig

The centerpiece of the programs during the National Board of Directors meeting for the State of Israel Bonds that occurred over the period of January 24 through January 27, 2013 was the awards dinner that was held on Sunday, January 27, where over 750 people pledged more than $238 million in Israel Bond purchases.  Needless to say, this is an extraordinary amount to be raised at one dinner!

Howie Mendel served brilliantly and hilariously as the master of ceremonies for the dinner where many great leaders across the Untied States and Canada were honored.  Distinguished guests included Israel’s Finance Minister, Yuval  Steinmenz, who presented the awards to all of the recipients long as with Richard Hirsch, Chairman of the Board for the State of Israel Bonds, and Izzy Tapooy, President of Israel Bonds, and of course Howie Mendel.

The evening was extremely successful and a great way to start the 2013 campaign season where the Untied States and Canada will raise $1 Billion in Israel Bond purchases.

Israel’s Counsel General to New York City – Ambassador Ido Aharoni

By:Kent Swig

As part of the programs during the National Board of Directors meeting for the State of Israel Bonds that occurred over the period of January 24 through January 27, 2013, I had the extreme privilege of introducing Ambassador Ido Aharoni who serves as Israel’s  Counsel General to New York City.  It was a pleasure seeing Ido again as we had, together, participated in the lighting of New York City’s Channuka Menorah this past December 2012.

The Ambassador eloquently spoke (as always) about the issues facing Israel, the Unites States and the rest of the world in terms of the geo-political events occurring in the Middle East today.  He has such a gift of presenting very complicated regional and world issues in a clear and understandable manner which affords all those who listen to him to understand the facts and be able to form their own opinions of these regional and world events.  It is always a great opportunity to spend time with Ido.

State of Israel bond annual National Board of Directors Meeting

By: Kent Swig

Over the period from January 24 through January 27, 20013, I participated in the annual National Board of Directors meeting, for the State of Israel Bonds. At our opening dinner, Bob Woodward was the key note speaker and captivated the audience with his stories of Watergate, both Hillary and Bill Clinton,  his perspective of the Obama Administration, and many of the critical issues facing the Administration and America today.

It was a true privilege to meet him and to listen to him speak, and to participate in the question and answer period that followed his talk.  Clearly, Bob Woodward has a unique and intimate knowledge and perspective of American politics.

MacRae Parker: one of the great brokers from Brown Harris Stevens

One of the great brokers from Brown Harris StevensBrown Harris Stevens’ MacRae Parker

MacRae Parker

Recently, we lost a giant in the real estate industry with the death of MacRae Parker, who served as a broker and leader of Brown Harris Stevens for over 50 years.   Mac was 90 years old and while he lived a full and long life, we will miss him dearly and it still seems that we lost him too soon.

Mac will be remembered as a pillar in the real estate industry, a true gentlemen, and among the most knowledgeable in the entire industry.  I am so fortunate to have been able to work with Mac since 1995 and to be able to considered him a friend.

Brown Harris Stevens celebrated Mac’s life at a recent service at Christ’s Church where all of us paid tribute to Mac’s glorious life.  He will be remembered and missed by all.
