Surfing Again …Thanks to Personal Trainer and a Great Surgeon

After a long and painful recovery from a complicated shoulder surgery, more than 6 months ago, I was able to go surfing in Newport, Rhode Island over this past Memorial Day weekend while visiting there during the Brown University reunion weekend. While I was the only person surfing without a wetsuit, I was plenty warmed by the thrill of being back in the ocean to surf once again. I owe a great deal of thanks to my physical trainer Frank D’Elia who has patiently and persistently worked with me 4 days each week to help me regain my mobility and my strength so that I can have full use and motion of my shoulder. And of course, I thank Dr. Jonathan Glashow of Mount Sinai Hospital for a magnificent job of repairing a very damaged shoulder.

Brown University Sports Centers

I just attended the ground breaking for Brown University’s new Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, Neslon
Fitness Cener and the Itttelson Quadrangle as well as the David J. Zucconi Varsity Strength and Conditioning Center.
These three new buildings and the new quadrangle, designed by architect Robert A. M. Stern, will make a magnificent addition to the Brown campus and specifically to the 39 acre sports complex.
The new Aquatic’s Center is especially meaningful to me as I participated on  the varsity swim team as a spring board diver on both the low board and high board during all four years at Brown.  So, to see the ground breaking for this new center, which will be the fastest swimming pool in the Ivy League, and perhaps the entire Eastern Seaboard, is just thrilling for me.
Also, the Corporation at Brown had voted to name the new Varsity Strength and Conditioning Center after the late David J. Zucconi who was a former Athletic Director at Brown and a strong supporter of the Brown Rugby Team.
As a member of the Brown Rugby Team for three years, I knew Dave well and to finally see such a meaningful recognition of his service to Brown is very heart-warming and touching indeed. Dave was a great man and a true lover of Brown!
